Regency furnishings have an enduring appeal and a sense of refinement not easily put into words. We decided to put our penchant for neoclassical details to the test by handcrafting a waterfall bookcase that features all of the trappings and trimmings of the superlative antiques that inspired its design. Our waterfall bookshelf features a clean-edged silhouette, a curvilinear top, ogee bracket feet, and other subtle details that will dramatize your living room or office.
As with many of the case goods that were made at the height of the Regency era, our small antique bookcase is carved, sanded, and finished by hand using plantation-grown mahogany. We prefer Honduran mahogany because it is less brittle than soft pines but more flexible to work with than hard oaks. Mahogany also offers a magnificent reddish-brown hue that tends to darken over time. When polished with our signature satin semi-gloss finish, the medium texture and pleasing straight grain of this South American species are masterfully accentuated for all to see. With three large open shelves, one open top shelf, and one bottom drawer, this waterfall bookcase provides ample space for display.
You can also design a one-of-a-kind waterfall bookshelf for your home:
- We can build furniture raw, without staining or finishing
- We can design and build with your needs or requests in mind
- We can add a painted, distressed, antiqued, or white-washed finish
Creating your own small antique bookcase is easier than you might have imagined. Our custom design process begins with your project proposal. We then create concept sketches and drafts until we have brought your utterly unique bookcase to life. With your approval, we begin building in order to deliver your custom creation as quickly as we possibly can. Please feel free to contact Laurel Crown if you have any questions or concerns.
