Qualities of a Good Hall Table

The first thing most people do when coming home is to drop their keys, mail, and anything else in their hands on the hall table in the entryway. Subsequently, the hall table becomes a center of traffic before entering or leaving the house. It is also the first and last thing your friends and family see when coming over. So, if you don’t have a hall table or if your entry table is a rickety, old travesty, it may be time for a hall table overhaul.

Style and Function

While your entryway must be functional – people need to kick their shoes off somewhere – it should also be welcoming aesthetically appealing. An entry table with drawers and/or shelves, like the Biedermeier Console Table, provides a classy storage area for the clutter of the foyer and is an ideal spot to display your beautiful souvenirs or family photos. Choose the style that matches your home and personality best. For example Victorian furniture will give the area a classic, but simple and grounded feel while Chippendale style furniture will give the area more formality and beautiful sophistication.

Materials and Construction

When looking for the perfect hall table, always be sure to purchase quality antique reproduction furniture for your home, especially for high-traffic areas that will be on display to house guests. Well-made pieces are fashioned from high quality hardwoods like mahogany and will last for years. They also incorporate joinery techniques like dovetail, mortise and tenon and/or butterfly joints to keep the piece sturdy and stable for a lifetime of coming and going.
