Finding a suitable space to showcase your collectibles and curios can be trying at times, but Laurel Crown may have just the solution you need. Our Victorian whatnot shelves were made with knick-knacks and doodads in mind, providing four open shelves to help you house your treasures and keep them safe for many years to come. This English-inspired antique reproduction features staged shelves that allow easy access to any figurine or ornament on display. At the top of each antique whatnot shelf we make, you will find an intricately carved gallery supported by finely turned spindles. At the bottom of our whatnot shelf, we added a drawer to help you keep incidentals out of sight.
Every antique whatnot shelf is meticulously carved, sanded, and finished by hand using the finest plantation-grown Honduran mahogany. This stunning species of wood was preferred by furniture makers of the past because it is less brittle than soft pines but more flexible to work with than hard oaks. This striking wood is also revered for its superior workability and dimensional stability. When polished with our signature satin semi-gloss finish, the reddish-brown hue and pleasing straight grain pattern of mahogany seems to glow. With time, you can also expect the hue to slowly darken.
We happily accept custom requests for our Victorian whatnot shelves:
- Add spiral-turned spindles to closely match our smaller shelving unit
- Alter the dimensions to fit a specific space or height limitation in your home
- Change the finish to complement cherry, hazelnut, oak, walnut, or other woods
We can let you take the reins on designing your own one-of-a-kind whatnot shelf to reflect your discriminating taste. We offer an array of customization options on qualifying case goods, and our antique reproduction specialists would be happy to help you get started.
