Some furnishings have a je ne sais quoi about them that transcends time. In designing this stately armoire, we drew inspiration from the northern coast of France, where grand farmhouses and stone castles speckle the magnificent countryside of Normandy. This antique French armoire looks as if it could have been plucked from a Norman home marked by Romanesque architecture. This faithful reproduction of a Normandy armoire features regional motifs, including floral accents, medallions on each door, and decorative gadrooning to frame the shapely silhouette.
Each French armoire reproduction is carved, sanded, and finished entirely by hand in keeping with traditional construction techniques that have been used for centuries. We build each antique French armoire with plantation-grown Honduran mahogany, which is beloved for its brown hue and pleasing straight grain. Each armoire is polished with a satin semi-gloss finish to not only help it glow but also protect the wood from cracking or warping over time. Mahogany is less brittle than soft pines yet more flexible to work with than hard oaks, making it an ideal choice for this authentic reproduction. Within the Normandy armoire, you’ll find three spacious shelves for storage.
You can even design your own French-inspired wardrobe:
- Choose from cherry, oak, pine, rosewood, walnut, or other wood finishes
- Request an antiqued, distressed, or washed finish to create an old-world look
- Modify the existing design to include drawers, extra shelves, or anything you desire
Designing your own French armoire reproduction allows you to add a personal touch to an heirloom worth passing on to future generations.
